Veteran guard Patty Mills will provide more help for Kevin Durant and the powerhouse unit of the Brooklyn Nets. He surprisingly left the San Antonio Spurs to join the Nets in the offseason, signing a two-year, $12 million deal.

Mills will serve as the backup of Kyrie Irving and James Harden, providing instant scoring punch off the bench as well as backcourt composure.

The 33-year old Mills said the familiar faces in the Nets, including general manager Sean Marks and assistant coach Jacque Vaughn, who both played for the Spurs, made his decision to jump ship easier. Being a huge fan of Nets tactician Steve Nash also helped a lot. But the streaky guard pointed out that for him, it's ultimately about the team's culture (via New York Post).

“I’m a culture guy. That’s who I am and what makes me tick. So to be able to dive in deep to the culture of Brooklyn, and everything that’s great about that and what it has to offer was the next step.”

The Nets can surely use a great locker room presence like Mills, who won a title with the Spurs in 2014. With the superstar talent around, plus the eccentric personalities of Durant, Irving, and James Harden, Mills will be a steadying factor.

“It’s never going to be a smooth-sailing ship. There’s going to be ups and downs, and one of the most important things to understand is not to ride the highs too high and ride the lows too low. It is a marathon. If you try to steady the ship as you go, that’s how you’ve got to go about it.”

Mills will be an easy favorite among Nets fans.
