With the Brooklyn Nets guaranteeing his contract for the upcoming 2018-19 season, Spencer Dinwiddie has expressed his joy over the recent development.

Dinwiddie is coming off a breakout season in which he was a top contender for Most Improved Player. With Jeremy Lin and D'Angelo Russell sidelined with injuries, the 6-foot-6 point guard stepped up to the plate with his all-around brilliance.

The Detroit Pistons drafted Dinwiddie with the 38th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Fresh from his three-year stint with the University of Colorado, the point guard struggled in his rookie season. He shot an incredibly low 19 percent from deep in his first season, and played just 12 games for the Pistons in his sophomore year.

The Nets picked him up in 2016 following D-League (now G League) stints that improved his overall game. In his maiden season with the Nets, he increased his 3-point shooting percentage to 37 percent and cracked a consistent spot in the rotation with 22.6 minutes per game.

But his second season with the Nets proved that he can be a reliable starter in the league, as his numbers doubled in the points and assists category. He blossomed under the tutelage of coach Kenny Atkinson, who implemented one of the quickest offensive paces in the league.

However, if Dinwiddie wants to establish himself as a premier point guard in the NBA, he still has plenty of work to do. Despite the fact that his outside shooting percentages have increased, it's still inconsistent. Dinwiddie shot a measly 39 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc. He also needs to shore up his defense if the Nets are planning to put him in the starting backcourt along with Russell.
