The New England and wide receiver Kenny Britt have reportedly agreed to a deal, according to Field Yates of ESPN. The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that it's a two-year deal that locks up Britt through the 2018 season.

Britt was cut by the Cleveland Browns shortly after John Dorsey took over as the general manager. He was in the first season with the team after signing a four-year, $32.5 million contract this past offseason.

The 29-year-old was coming off his most productive campaign with the Los Angeles Rams, posting career highs with 68 catches and 1,002 receiving yards along with five touchdowns. He was nearly a complete non-factor for the Browns this year, recording only 18 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns in nine games played. This also includes him having no more than three catches in each contest while failing to garner more than 55 receiving yards in any outing.

The Patriots were reportedly Britt's first choice on the open market, which provides him the opportunity to not only compete for a championship, but also to be a factor in the passing game. He could step in as a huge target in the red zone due to his size, standing at 6-foot-3.

New England has dealt with injuries at receiver throughout this season, and they struggled to get production at the position in Monday's loss to the Miami Dolphins. Outside of Danny Amendola's six catches for 76 yards, the Patriots had just two combined receptions from both Brandin Cooks and Chris Hogan. Granted, the Patriots were playing without All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski, who was suspended..

Ultimately, this could be an opportunity for Britt to latch on long-term with the Patriots as one of their primary contributors in the passing game moving forward.
