The 2022 Battle of Alberta in the Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers took off in an insane, high-scoring manner. Darryl Sutter and his Flames churned out a victory with a score that resembled that of two bad football teams, beating the Oilers, 9-6. In only a way Sutter can, the Flames head coach made a hilarious quip when asked for a reaction to people who grumbled about the low-scoring nature of Calgary's first-round showdown with the Dallas Stars — a series that went the distance.

Via Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff:

Darryl Sutter: “They told us last round was boring, so I told our guys yesterday we had to score 7 to 10 goals tonight … and that’s what we did.”

Calgary scored three straight goals in the first period and looked as though it was going to have an easy night from there. But Edmonton would score six of the next nine goals of the contest before the Flames closed it out by finding the back of the net three times in a row in the third frame. Matthew Tkachuk led the scoring spree in Game 1 with a hat trick. It's unlikely that either team would be able to sustain this kind of explosive offense, but at least for the Flames, they have already shown what many expected with regards to their advantage in the possession battle, having racked up 48 shots on goal in the series opener to just 28 by the Oilers.

Game 2 of this matchup will be on Friday.
