The Toronto Maple Leafs went out and acquired Mark Giordano from the Seattle Kraken at the NHL Trade Deadline in hopes he could help bring a Stanley Cup to the city. While he played well for the Leafs, the team was once again bounced in the first round of the playoffs, this time by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Toronto was impressed with the production they received from Giordano, however, and are rewarding his play with a new two-year contract, keeping him in town through the 2023-24 season, via Frank Seravalli.

Giordano will pocket $800,000 per year with the Maple Leafs, and will likely play out the remainder of his career in Toronto. The 38-year-old just wrapped up his 16th NHL season, 15 of which he spent with the Calgary Flames.
Giordano was selected by the Kraken in the NHL Entry Draft as one of the upstart franchise's top picks. He played a total of 55 games in Seattle before being dealt to the Maple Leafs at the trade deadline. In all this season, Giordano recorded 35 points, scoring 8 goals and providing 27 assists.
He was a force on defense, recording 139 blocked shots and 75 hits on the season, while also playing a role offensively, having fired 151 shots on goal throughout the season.
Keeping Giordano around is a smart move from the Maple Leafs front office, especially at that price, and he'll look to be a big contributor to their defense in 2022-23 as they look to make a deep playoff run and reverse their run of poor results in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
