Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitchell Marner was the victim of a terrifying crime on Monday evening after it was reported that he had his car stolen at gunpoint outside of a movie theater in West Toronto. The Maple Leafs forward released a statement on Wednesday via Twitter, indicating that he was okay following the scary incident, and thanked Toronto Police Services for investigating the matter.

According to reports, Marner and a woman in her 20s were the victims of the carjacking in which three individuals armed with handguns robbed them of the Maple Leafs star's Land Rover, via Sportsnet.
Police inspector Rich Harris released a statement indicating the police were working on the case, saying:
“Trust me, when I tell you dedicated investigators are working on this feverishly and continue to review any and all evidence that we have so far… Evidence suggests this was a crime of opportunity,”
Marner was unharmed in the incident which took place around 7:45 p.m. EST in West Toronto outside of a cinema.
Marner and the Maple Leafs were bounced from the first round of the playoffs on Saturday by the Tampa Bay Lightning after a 2-1 defeat on their home ice in Game 7. It marks the ninth consecutive elimination game defeat for the Maple Leafs in the past five seasons, and the sixth season in a row they've failed to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
During the regular season, Marner, 25, featured in 72 games for the Maple Leafs. He registered a career-high 97 points by the way of 35 goals and 62 assists.
