Why The Padres Will Cover The Spread/Win
San Diego has hit the ball well this season, despite their record. They are top-10 in slugging percentage, and they are top-5 in home runs. The Padres are able to find barrels often, and hit the ball hard. In fact, their expected batting average is top-3 in the MLB at the moment. Their offense has carried them all season, and Monday night will be no different. If the Padres can continue to hit the ball, they are going to win this game on the road.
Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Brewers have Wade Miley on the mound, and he has made just one start this season. It was a good one, though. He threw four innings of one-hit baseball against the Cincinnati Reds, and allowed just one run. He did walk two and strikeout zero, so he was a huge contact pitcher in the game. Miley does have to be very careful against the Padres lineup when it comes to pitching to contact. However, he has enough control to not leave a lot of pitches over the plate. If he can continue to induce weak contact, the Brewers will win this game.
On the other side of things, Joe Musgrove has been very hittable this season. He has allowed 25 hits through 18.1 innings pitched, including two home runs in his four starts. Milwaukee should be able to take advantage of this and crush the ball like they have been doing all season. They are top-5 in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, and barrel percentage. Musgrove seems to be missing over the plate a lot right now, so I do not see Milwaukee's hitting stats changing any time soon. If they continue to hit the ball like that, they are going to win this game.
Final Padres-Brewers Prediction & Pick
Joe Musgrove has the capability to shut teams down anytime he takes the mound, which makes this tough. However, I am going to go with the hot team, and the reliable pitcher. I am going to take the Brewers to win the game outright.
