The Florida Panthers had an incredible regular season. The Panthers won the President's Trophy, given to the team with the most points every year. However, they staring a 3-2 series deficit in the face against the Washington Capitals in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

In Game 5 at home, the Panthers found themselves trailing 3-0 during the second period. But that's when they went to work and made NHL history along the way.

The Panthers would go on to score five straight goals and win the game, 5-3. Wednesday marked the sixth time this season that Florida overcame a three-goal deficit to win. That is the most in any single season in NHL history.

The Panthers also led the NHL this season in comeback victories. So, this should come as no surprise. However, doing it in the playoffs is a great indicator what this team is truly capable of.

Florida forward Carter Verhaeghe scored two goals during the comeback. He leads all players with five playoff goals so far. Then late in the third period leading 5-4, the Panthers trade deadline acquisition of Claude Giroux paid off. He made an outstanding move to beat Caps goalie Ilya Samsonov to put the game away.

Now, Florida will travel to Washington with a chance to close out the series. It will not be easy though. This Capitals team might have been the eighth seed, but they are no eight seed. Washington finished with 100 points this season, and have a similar roster to the one that won the Stanley Cup a couple years ago.
