The New England Patriots signed Cam Newton earlier this week, and Julian Edelman seems excited about it:

Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers back in March. Since that point, the Patriots had been regularly mentioned as a potential landing spot after Tom Brady decided to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Of course, there is no guarantee that Newton will be the Week 1 starter.
New England seems enamored with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham, whom the club took in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
However, Stidham is entirely unproven on the NFL level. He threw just four passes during his rookie campaign, one of which ended up being an interception.
This should create a rather interesting dynamic during training camp and also the regular season, as this is the first time the Patriots have had a quarterback competition in decades.
Newton played in just two games during his final season with the Panthers in 2019 before bowing out due to a foot injury, one that would ultimately require surgery in December.
The 31-year-old has had significant health difficulties since the end of 2016. In addition to his foot procedure, Newton has also undergone a pair of shoulder surgeries over the last several years.
Newton, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by Carolina with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
His high-water mark with the Panthers came during the 2015-16 campaign when he won the MVP award and led the club to a 15-1 record and a Super Bowl appearance.
