New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore has solidified his case as one of the frontrunners for Defensive Player of the Year with his spectacular play throughout the season.

In a recent conversation with Albert Breer of The MMQB, Gilmore stated he has no doubts about his status as the favorite to win the award.

There is no question that Gilmore certainly has good reason to be confident in his candidacy. After all, he has been the best cornerback in the NFL over the last two years and has accepted and excelled at every challenge that has come his way.

Gilmore is currently tied for the league lead in interceptions (6) and pass deflections (18) while taking two of those interceptions the other way for touchdowns. Perhaps even more impressive is that he has managed to reach this mark while guarding every team's No. 1 wide receiver. As a result, he has been named one of three Pro Bowlers on the Patriots roster this year.

There is stiff competition for Gilmore from a couple of the league's premier pass-rushers in Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

Donald is the reigning two-time DPOY and although his numbers may be down, his impact on the game is still as prevalent as ever. Meanwhile, Watt has emerged as the star of a formidable Steelers' defense with 13 sacks, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
