Days after teammate Zion Williamson signed with the Jordan brand, New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes has agreed to a multi-year sneaker endorsement deal with Nike, ESPN's Nick DePaula reports.

Hayes, a 6-foot-11 big man from the University of Texas at Austin, was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Pelicans, who acquired the selection from the Atlanta Hawks in dealing the fourth pick.

The 19-year-old Hayes spent a single season at Texas, averaging 10.0 points and 2.2 blocks per game for Shaka Smart's Longhorns.

Earlier this week, Williamson — the first overall pick in the draft and Hayes' frontcourt teammate — signed the richest rookie shoe deal with Air Jordan, an internal brand of Nike's. Williamson and Jordan agreed to a five-year endorsement worth $75 million, paying him more than his on-court NBA earnings. The terms of Hayes' contract with Nike are currently undisclosed.

Hayes had a breakout Summer League performance in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Pelicans in front of NBA scouts and front office officials. Hayes and Williamson are two of the players in New Orleans' draft night haul, which also included Virginia Tech's Nickeil Alexander-Walker, selected at No. 17, and second-round pick (Brazilian forward) Marcos Louzada Silva.

In four Vegas games, Hayes averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 24.3 minutes a contest, shooting 62.8% from the field and 55.6% from the free throw line.

DePaula adds that Hayes received “tons of brand interest” with his explosive Summer League dunk and the “visibility of playing alongside Zion.”
