The New Orleans Pelicans wasted no time rebuilding their lineup after the departure of DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo this summer. By adding the likes of Julius Randle, Elfrid Payton, and Jahlil Okafor, the Pelicans are definitely looking to build on last season's accomplishments.

The Pelicans appear to be all set to start the season, but are still also looking at the prospect of reportedly signing a wingman by the time the mid-season trade window opens. General Manager Dell Demps sees this window as an excellent opportunity to pounce on players who may have recently become available due to the imminent fate of their respective teams.

“History (and several league sources) indicates [Pelicans GM Dell Demps] is waiting for a midseason trade to strike,” per Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate. “As teams around the league see their postseason prospects dim, and grow eager to exchange a quality player for expiring salaries or the Pelicans’ always-endangered first round pick, there’s opportunity to shore up their most glaring weakness.”

Demps is a master tactician and has proven his expertise in the past.

“It’s exactly what Demps did to acquire Cousins from Sacramento in 2017 and Mirotic a year later from Chicago,” adds Kushner. “Both are impactful veterans who were added without surrendering foundational players.”

The Pelicans have several assets at their disposal and it seems like Demps and his front office are ready to pull the trigger, with their win-now approach at full throttle.
