New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram was among a few notable soon-to-be free agents to miss out on a potential contract extension prior to Monday's deadline. The organization is likely wanting to take a good look at Ingram for a full season before they engage in negotiations once again, this time as a restricted free agent, which could come at a steeper cost.

Ingram averaged 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists last season through 52 games, but was ruled out for the season on March 9 due to deep vein thrombosis in his arm — something that scared plenty of front-office executives.

The Pelicans ultimately hauled him in as part of a blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis, and he looked good during his preseason efforts as New Orleans went an undefeated 5-0.

The 22-year-old is confident talks between executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin and his agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, are fluid, not taking this deadline passing to heart:

“Me and Griff talk. Me and my agent talk. We have good conversations,” said Ingram, according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

Ingram, along with Jakob Poeltl (San Antonio Spurs), Thon Maker (Detroit Pistons), Malik Beasley (Denver Nuggets), and Damian Jones (Atlanta Hawks) were some of the players who did not receive an extension, but that could bring along the chance for an even more lucrative contract as a restricted free agent if he takes advantage of his new situation.
