PSG.LGD cleared the name of the team's Dota 2 coach xiao8 from betting and cheating allegations hurled towards the former TI champion in the wake of The International 2021.
Citing the results of a detective agency they've hired, PSG.LGD cleared the name of xiao8 in a Weibo post. The coach has been previously suspended amidst rumors of betting against his team in the TI Finals. The coach's reinstatement comes two days before his 30-day suspension expires. In the post, PSG.LGD announces:
“The supervision center's investigation work is carried out under the supervision and guidance of the public security departments, and the results of the investigation are hereby made public as follows:
- The personnel of the Dota 2 branch of our club (editor's note: i.e. PSG.LGD's Dota 2 team) have no improper behavior that affects the fairness of the game, and have not attempted to affect the outcome of the game in a manner that is unsportsmanlike;
- After the TI10 competition, the negative pictures about Zhang Ning (ID: xiao8) on the Internet reflected the situation is not true.
As part of the investigation, PSG.LGD requested Valve, the publishers of Dota 2 and organizers of The International, copies of audio and video recordings during the crucial games on which xiao8 was allegedly drafting a losing draft intentionally. As a result of the investigation, PSG.LGD's coach xiao8 will be reinstated within the next 3 days, provided that no relevant report email will be submitted to the organization.
In reaction to the announcement, Chinese fans are relieved to know that they can finally move on from the controversy. Meanwhile, there is still a minority of fans who are encouraging xiao8's ex-wife, who escalated the rumors that led to the investigation, to release further evidence of xiao8's wrongdoings.
