The Philadelphia 76ers are trading forward/center Richaun Holmes to the Phoenix Suns for cash considerations, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Holmes played a backup role under cornerstone Joel Embiid, also playing alongside him when Dario Saric would miss time due to injury.

The Suns are revamping their frontcourt, first by adding No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton and now by adding Holmes to the mix, after letting Maryland prospect Alex Len walk after several unfruitful seasons with the team.

Richaun Holmes is a capable close-and-mid-range shooter with excellent activity around the glass, able to block shots and get his hands on passing lanes. His athleticism goes right on track with the young core that the Suns have tried to develop.

Meanwhile, the Sixers are freeing up further cap space, as they could hold onto their mid-level exception after Nemanja Bjelica recently walked back his earlier agreement with the team to remain in Europe.

The MLE could be a powerful bargaining chip in case the Sixers need to reload before or after the trade deadline, as many potential waiver wire pickups could be attracted by a handsome offer if the Sixers are willing to deal it out. Philly also has multiple second-round picks it might want to sign.
