The Dallas Stars put an end to the Rick Bowness era following their first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Calgary Flames. It didn't take long for the Stars to find a replacement for Bowness, having officially announced the hire of former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Peter DeBoer.

DeBoer will become the 25th head coach in franchise history and the 10th in the history of the Dallas Stars.

The 54-year-old DeBoer was fired by the Golden Knights at the end of the 2021-22 season and was subsequently replaced by Bruce Cassidy, who himself had only just been let go by the Boston Bruins. Now, the coaching carousel has seen DeBoer wind up in Dallas, where he'll look to lead the team on a deep playoff run.

DeBoer seems a great fit for the Stars. He boasts plenty of experience, having been an NHL head coach for 14 seasons. His coaching career began back in 2008 when he joined the Florida Panthers. He served as the franchise's head coach for three seasons until he joined the New Jersey Devils, where he coached from 2010-2015, making a Stanley Cup Final run in 2012.

After his stint with the Devils, DeBoer joined the San Jose Sharks for five seasons, with whom he made the playoffs in his first four years, including another trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2016, his first year at the helm. After being let go by the Sharks in 2019-20, DeBoer latched on with the Golden Knights after they parted ways with Gerard Gallant. DeBoer spent three years in Vegas, but was fired after the 2021-22 season when the franchise missed the playoffs for the first time in its history.

Across his 14 years of head coaching, DeBoer has amassed a record of 513-379-123 across 1,015 games. He'll now look to get the most out of a talented Stars team headlined by the likes of Joe Pavelski, Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, Jake Oettinger, and Miro Heiskanen, among others.
