North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis couldn't help but be emotional after his team lost the NCAA title game to the Kansas Jayhawks in a real heartbreaker.

The Tar Heels went ahead by 15 at halftime, 40-25, and it looked like they were on their way to a rather dominant victory. Davis' in-game interview even hyped things up, perfectly summing up the energy the team has entering the contest. With that said, it certainly came as a shock when North Carolina collapsed in the second half and failed to show the same intensity they had in the opening period.

Credit should be given to Kansas and their defense, even limiting star guard Caleb Love to 13 points in the game. The Tar Heels struggled to shoot the ball and it came back to bite them.

Despite the defeat, Coach Davis expressed how proud he is of his players for what they have accomplished. He reiterated his desire for the players to get such kind of experiences, which they more than achieved throughout their journey.

“I can't be more proud of the group that I just coached this year. I told them that I desperately wanted them to have experiences, stories and testimonies of their own, and along the ride, they had more stories, testimonies and memories for me as a coach,” Davis shared while clearly holding back his tears from the emotional moment.

While it is a rather painful end to what was a magical run in the 2022 March Madness, Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels can hold their heads high and be proud of what they were able to do. It is easy to forget that Davis is just in his first year as head coach of North Carolina, and they were already able to reach the Final game.

Imagine what the Tar Heels can do as they continue to work under Davis and make improvements from their weaknesses this year. Of course it will be another difficult journey for the team and there's no assurance they can get back to the Finals, but they will surely love their chances with a coach like Davis leading the way.
