Team USA was defeated by Team Germany in the semifinals of the FIBA World Cup on Friday. The Americans do not have a chance to win the gold medal as a result of the defeat. Although the USA team's roster was lacking star-power, some believed the team was still talented enough to win the FIBA World Cup. Their loss to Germany drew no shortage of reaction from fans.

“This is the play that ended the game. Andreas Obst on an ATO sends Team USA home.”

“That’s glaring. It gives credence to Noah Lyles… International competition is different and the USA gets exposed,” Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN First Take.

“Second straight FIBA World Cup that Team USA hasn’t made the final.”

“Melo seeing Team USA down in the semis.”

Team USA loses in FIBA World Cup semifinal

Andreas Obst led the charge for Team Germany. He scored 24 points and dished out six assists. Obst also went 6-11 from the field, 4-8 from beyond the arc, and 8-9 from the free throw line. It was a clutch performance against a good team.

For the USA, Anthony Edwards led with 23 points and eight rebounds. Austin Reaves added 21 points in the contest. Meanwhile, Mikal Bridges finished with 17 points and Jalen Brunson dropped 15 points and seven assists.

In the end, the USA squad fell short, failing to take care of business when it mattered most in the FIBA World Cup. Perhaps American superstars will take notice and play in the next World Cup following this devastating defeat.
