We never know if there will ever be another golfer like him, but it seems that he at least passed down his passion for the sport to his son.
Charlie Axel Woods was born on February 8, 2009 to the golfing legend and his now ex-wife Elin Nordegren. He has an older sister, Sam Alexis, born 2007. Charlie also became an older brother in 2019 when his mother gave birth to her son with former NFL player Jordan Cameron. Although those who follow golfing news are likely familiar with the younger Woods by now, those who aren't may still recognize him from a recent viral video. In it, the PGA Tour recorded the then 12-year-old's mannerisms and put it next to videos of his father.
But where did it all start?
According to Style, the young Charlie was initially interested in playing football. However, since the pandemic struck, Tiger had more time to bond with his son, and it seemed the passion for golf was infectious. Charlie eventually made his golfing debut at a junior golf tournament back in August 2020 in Palm City, Florida. Together with his 15-time major champion dad, he played in the final group of the 2020 PNC event. They eventually placed seventh, which wasn't at all bad considering he was one of the event's youngest contestants. This is the starting point of the youngster being known more than just Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods.
The duo most recently dazzled at the 2021 PNC Championship, where the father-son duo shocked everyone with 11 consecutive birdies. Not only had they tied John Daly and John Daly II for the lead, the said performance was the longest streak in history of the event.
Charlie, then 12 years old, left the audience in awe with several shots nobody expected from such a young player. He and his father ended up finishing two shots out of first place, which went to Team Daly. Despite not winning the top prize, the young golfer showed flashes of talent and potential.
Notably, the event also marked Tiger Wood's return since he got into a car accident in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. As a result of the single-vehicle collision, Woods sustained multiple leg injuries and had to have surgery for other non-life-threatening injuries. After placing second at the end of the competition, Golf Digest interviewed the older Woods. When asked about how his young son stayed incredibly poised throughout the event, Tiger remarked:
βNo matter how many people are around you, whether it's zero or millions, it doesn't matter. It's the same shot. It doesn't change. β¦ And so whether he's playing at home with his buddies, or he's playing with me, or he's playing in a tournament golf or he's playing in front of TV crews, it doesn't matter. And just having that mindset, he's starting to understand it and learn that. And he showed that today.β
The father of two also emphasized that despite the horrific events of last year, what remained the same was the level of appreciation he's had playing with his son.
βMost of Charlie's playing life, basically, is I've been hurt. My back's been bad for a very long time. β¦ I've always appreciated every time I get a chance to go out there and play and practice with him, because there have been a lot of days where I can't.β
With immense potential and more than enough resources at hand, the sky is the limit for young Charlie Woods.
