The Tigers make the trip to Kansas City to face the Royals! These two teams have been very different this season with the Tigers hovering around .500 and the Royals being one of the better teams in the MLB this season. Our MLB odds series has our Tigers-Royals prediction, odds, and pick for Tuesday.

The Tigers have been inconsistent on their way to a 23-23 record. Their bats have struggled a bit, ranking in the bottom of the MLB, but their pitching has been great, and one of the best units in the MLB. There is a massive discrepancy between their bats and their play on the mound. Riley Greene, Mark Canha, Kerry Carpenter, Javier Baez, and Spencer Torkelson have been able to stand out in an offense that has struggled so far this season. In comparison, the pitching has been great. Their ace has been Tarik Skubal who has been nothing short of dominant for them so far to start the season and then Jack Flaherty, Reese Olson, and Casey Mize have also been very good behind him. The Tigers' pitching is the biggest key to their success this season.

The Royals have played well to start the year with a 29-19 record and they have won four out of their last five games and three straight heading into this series. Their pitching is a top-10 unit, as compared to their batting which is in the middle of the pack. Seth Lugo coming over from San Diego has made a potent pitching combination to go with Brady Singer, Alec Marsh, and Cole Ragans. The bats have also improved, but still need work to be on the same level as their pitching staff. Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. have been the main standouts on the Royals behind the plate, but Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino have also played decent behind the plate. The Royals have played well so far this season and the Tigers present a unique challenge on the mound.

Why The Tigers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Tigers are starting Casey Mize on the mound where he has a 1-2 record, a 3.50 ERA, and a 1.19 WHIP. Through 43.2 innings, Mize has allowed 18 runs on 42 hits with 10 walks and 32 strikeouts. The Tigers are 5-3 in the eight games that he's started this season. In his last start, he pitched six innings and gave up two runs on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Mize has been solid for the Tigers this season, and he gets a decent matchup against the Royals and their bats, who have been solid, but not amazing.

The offense for the Tigers has not played well this season. The Tigers are 19th in the MLB in team batting average at .234 after having a team batting average of .236 last season. Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and Mark Canha lead the way in most of the batting categories for the Tigers. Greene leads the way in batting average at .249, in home runs at nine, and in hits at 42. Carpenter then leads the way in RBI at 23 and Canha leads in OBP at .360. This will be a very tough matchup against Alec Marsh on the mound for the Royals.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Royals are going with Alec Marsh to start on the mound. He has a 3-1 record, a 2.43 ERA, and a 1.05 WHIP on the year. Through 37 innings, he has allowed 11 runs on 29 hits with 10 walks and 31 strikeouts. He has started in seven games so far this season and the Royals are 6-1 in those games. In his last start, he pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in a Royals loss.

The Royals offense has been inconsistent this season and in the middle of the pack. They are 14th in team batting average at .244 after finishing last season with the same batting averageTheir offensive output has been led by Salvador Perez in all of the batting categories. Perez leads the way in batting average at .337, in home runs at eight, in RBI at 37, in OBP at .402, and in hits at 56. The Royals just need their offense to be solid and they get an interesting matchup against Casey Mize, who has been solid overall on the mound this year.

Final Tigers-Royals Prediction & Pick

The Tigers being favored here does not make much sense. The Royals have the better offense behind the plate and they have the better pitcher on the mound. Marsh is better than Mize, in what will be a massive pitching duel. The Royals should cover and win thanks to Marsh on the mound and extend their winning streak to four in a row.
