The Minnesota Vikings took drastic measures following an altercation at practice. After Bashaud Breeland clashed with coaches and teammates, Minnesota waived their starting cornerback, per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Courtney Cronin of ESPN laid out what happened with the Vikings' defensive back:

The situation started in a defensive meeting room Saturday morning as the cornerback and a coach were watching a play from a previous game, the source said. Later at practice, Breeland went onto the field with the defensive starters but was told to come out of the lineup, according to the source. After waiting on the sideline, the cornerback went back to the locker room to change out of his cleats. Once he returned to the practice field, a verbal altercation ensued between the cornerback, several teammates and coaches, and ended with general manager Rick Spielman stepping in to deescalate the situation. The source said that Spielman took Breeland to his office to address the situation and eventually waived the cornerback.

A free agent signing this past offseason, Breeland had started all 13 of the Vikings' games this season. He recorded 63 tackles and two interceptions.

Breeland took to Twitter to react to being waived.

The Vikings, at 6-7, are in the thick of a playoff race. They are currently on the outside looking in due to tiebreakers, so they cannot afford to lose too many more games. This flare-up at practice could not have occurred at a worse time for them.

Minnesota faces the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
