The Minnesota Vikings have undergone some major changes in the midst of their embarrassing loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has since taken his fair share of the team's struggles on offense.

It is no secret that Cousins has largely underwhelmed in the 2018 NFL season. According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, he has taken “ownership” for the team's offensive struggles which caused the firing of offensive coordinator John DeFilippo:

“Myself, I'd be the first one to say, if I had played at a higher level, we're probably not talking about the things we're talking about,” Cousins said Wednesday. “I take ownership, as well. Yet, big picture why? I don't know. I do point to the fact that we played at Chicago, who's a good defense. You saw what they did to the Rams. We played at Seattle and at New England, those aren't places you walk into as of late and just walk out with a win without breaking a sweat. Those are tough places to play, good teams. I'm sure there's a part of that, that you have to look at as well.”

The guild from Cousins is certainly understandable. There had been plenty of hype surrounding Minnesota heading into the 2018 campaign. Not only did they bring DeFilippo aboard fresh of a Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles, but they also managed to sign Cousins to a lucrative three-year, $84 million deal. Unfortunately, they have not gotten much bang for their buck.

DeFilippo was seen as one of the biggest names on the coaching market last season. He was credited with helping the development of quarterback Carson Wentz, who enjoyed an MVP-caliber season before suffering a devastating knee injury. However, it became evident over the last several weeks that a change was coming.

Cousins was expected to help take the Vikings to the next level after they fell short in the NFC Championship last season. Unfortunately, Minnesota has not fared much better than when Case Keenum was still under center. Although Cousins may feel accountable for DeFilippo's firing, there is no question that there are a number of issues that have factored into his struggles. They will need to find a way to improve before some more significant changes are made in the near future.
