The Minnesota Vikings' pursuit for a spot in the 2022 NFL Playoffs effectively ended in Week 17 when they lost to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, 37-10. With one more meaningless game left on Minnesota's schedule, all eyes are once again on Mike Zimmer, who failed to deliver the team to the postseason for the second season in a row and fifth overall since taking over the head coaching gig with the team in 2014.

Zimmer must be feeling his seat getting warmer, but he did not sound too worried about it when he spoke about his job security's short-term outlook (h/t Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press).

“Regardless of anything that goes on after the season, I can stand proud,’’ Zimmer said on “Xs and Os with Mike Zimmer,’’ the weekly segment he does with Allen that is broadcast on KFAN Radio and is available on Vikings.com. “When I walk into a stadium like Lambeau (Field) or I walk into U.S. Bank Stadium and I say to myself, ‘A billion people would love to be sitting here right now and doing this job.”’

Zimmer also showed that he very much aware that the intense scrutiny of his job status is part of the gig.

“I do think it’s different that people can talk about your job and being let go and things like that and not understanding the effects of all your coaches, effects of all the players, effects of their families and they say it after you lose every week,’’ Zimmer said. “So they don’t go around saying they should fire that doctor or fire that landscape guy or anything like that. So it’s just part of the business, I guess.”

With a seemingly hazy future, the best Zimmer could do at the moment is lead his team to a win on Sunday against the Chicago Bears at home.
