When he returns to the team, Washington Wizards center Dwight Howard will only do one-on-zero on-court work, according to head coach Scott Brooks.

Howard, who underwent back surgery in November, has been rehabbing the injury in his hometown of Atlanta.

Dwight Howard signed a two-year deal with the Wizards last summer. The former All-NBA big man only played in nine games with Washington before going under the knife. Howard has now had two back surgeries during his playing career.

In the nine games he appeared in, Howard averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds while shooting 62.3 percent from the field. The Wizards were 4-5 in the games Howard played in and are 24-34 overall on the season.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Watch Stadium reported on Wednesday that Howard expects to play again this season. The Wizards are trying to make a push for the playoffs and could use a veteran like Howard to help them. Thomas Bryant has been starting for Washington at center and been a pleasant surprise.

The Wizards acquired Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis from the Chicago Bulls at the trade deadline, two players with playoff experience who have already made a big impact in the nation's capital. It's obviously been a disastrous season for Dwight Howard, but maybe he can return toward the end of the season and end his year on a bright note.
