There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the 2020 NFL draft, but one thing is for sure: There are going to be trades that go down in the first round. For some teams, it makes more sense to trade down in the Round 1. Let's break down three teams that should trade down to try to collect more assets.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are in the perfect position to trade back from their No. 3 overall pick. Joe Burrow and Chase Young are projected to go Nos. 1 and 2, and most believe the draft really starts with the third pick. For teams that are looking for a quarterback they could try and trade up with the Lions.

The Lions have a ton of roster holes that need to be filled and there really isn't a slam dunk pick at No. 3. If they could trade back a few spots and pick up more draft assets to meet more of their needs in later rounds, that would make a lot of sense.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers need more draft picks, which means trading back is in their best interest. The 49ers have the 13th and 31st overall pick in the first round, but after their two Round 1 selections they don't pick again until the fifth round.

The 49ers need to pick up a couple more draft picks between the first and fifth round. Maybe they could even move back with both of their first-round selections to pick up significant draft capital. The 31st overall pick is a perfect trade-down spot because, for one, teams are trying to trade up to get a fifth-year option on a player they like.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are another team that needs draft picks, which might leave them no choice but to trade back. The Saints only have five selections in the 2020 draft, so at some point they are probably going to need to make a few deals to add more picks to their arsenal. If nothing else, rookie draft picks help with cap space, and going into training camp with only five drafted rookies would make life a little tough, financially speaking.

Even if the Saints end up with no first-round draft picks after trading down, that still seems like the right way to attack this draft, given the level of depth at a number of positions.
