Some of the NBA's most hardcore fans today love to debate on how current players would fare against a player of a different generation.

It's impossible to get a completely unbiased answer because of the many variables to take into account, but it never takes the fun out of seeing what interesting information comes along.

Here is a random stat of the day. This covers a 10 year period between one of the best scorers of the 2000's Kobe Bryant, compared to one of the best scorers of the 80's in Alex English.

During his very last season of NBA basketball, Kobe Bryant left the game showered with praise and congratulatory cheer for a stellar career, and rightfully so.

Bryant's resume includes being a 5 time champion, 2 times Finals MVP, 2008 MVP, 2 time scoring champion and an 18 time All Star among many other accomplishments.

Between 2000-2009 Kobe Bryant scored 21,065 points in 29,476 minutes.  English scored 21,018 in 29,208 minutes from 1980-1989.

Bryant scored 47 more points than English, but needed 268 extra minutes. English also shot 51% from the field compared to Kobe's 46%.

While this is no knock on Bryant's fully accomplished career and takes away nothing from what he did to the game of basketball, the players are comparable. Looking at the numbers themselves, maybe English was a bit underrated during his time in the league.
