The Colorado Avalanche went in to St. Louis Saturday night and took back home ice with a 5-2 win in their Western Conference Semifinal series. They now lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 Monday night in St. Louis. Despite leading the series, not everything is peaches and cream for the top-seeded Avalanche.
Following their Game 3 win, Colorado forward Nazem Kardi reportedly began receiving death threats.
During the first period of Game 3, the Avalanche center inadvertently collided with Blues goalie Jordan Binnington while going for a loose puck. Binnington was injured on the play.
On Sunday, Blues coach Craig Berube announced that Binnington has been ruled out for the rest of the series, according to the Denver Post. That's a huge blow for St. Louis already trailing Colorado in the series.
The Avalanche released a statement regarding the situation, USA Today reported.
“The Avalanche organization is aware of threats made toward Nazem Kadri and is working with local law enforcement to investigate,” the team said in a statement.
Binnington has been like a folk hero in St. Louis ever since he helped the team win their first ever Stanley Cup championship three years ago.
Meanwhile, the incident has caused quite the stir. Following Game 3 during a post-game interview with the Colorado center, Binnnington allegedly tossed a water bottle at him.
Kadri has previously been suspended by the NHL for numerous infractions. His reputation is certainly not the cleanest but this particular play does not look dirty at all. Regardless, there is never an excuse for death threats.
