The Chicago Bears fell just short of advancing to the Divisional Round of the playoffs in 2018, and as the Bears begins preseason play, they have high hopes for this 2019 season. According to one member of the defense, their aim is for the Bears to boast one of the “nastiest” defensive lines in the entire league.

Speaking to The Athletic’s Adam Jahns, Bears defensive lineman Bilal Nichols says his goal for the defense is to be nasty:

“We want to be the nastiest D line group in the whole league by far,” Nichols said. “We want to be known to be physical and be dominant. And when you come to play us, you better come ready to play. That’s our goal. And that’s why we’re out here working so hard. We’re not going to stop until we become that.”

Thankfully for Nichols, the Bears boast more than enough talent to complete that goal. Not only do they have incredible depth up front, but with players like Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, and Jonathan Bullard all set to play a large role, the Bears can be as dominant as any team. Add to that the talents of Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, and Roquan Smith in the linebacking corps, and the Bears boast one of the most complete defenses in the entire NFL.

Of course, Chicago's defense can only go as far as its offense takes it. While the defense was the NFL’s best last year, the offense lagged behind a bit, and it will be up to young quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to take the leap and improve if the Bears hope to capture another Super Bowl.

Fortunately for the Bears, they shouldn’t have to worry too much about the defensive side of the ball, and in Nichols’ case, being nasty won’t be too difficult for them.
