The Chicago Bears have called Soldier Field home for nearly 100 years. Opening in October 1924, it is the oldest stadium in the NFL. However, the team believes the grass is greener elsewhere.

The Bears are looking to move to Arlington Heights, and want to build a new stadium there. It's an idea the team originally looked at back in 1971 but ultimately didn't go for.

Despite the Bears desire, the city of Chicago wants the team to stay in the city. The Chicago Sun-Times revealed a few ideas for renovations on Soldier Field. Among the ideas was building a dome over the stadium.

However, the Bears aren't going for it, and will not pursue renovations on their current home. A team spokesman released the following statement to the Daily Herald:

“The only potential project the Chicago Bears are exploring for a new stadium development is Arlington Park. As part of our mutual agreement with the seller of that property, we are not pursuing alternative stadium deals or sites, including renovations to Soldier Field, while we are under contract.”

One former Bears player has chimed in. San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould spent 11 seasons in the Windy City. And in his opinion, Soldier Field wasn't the best place to play. It's in his top-five worse places to play due to the harsh winter conditions.

“I do think that in the best interest of the fans, the best interest in the organization, this is what makes the most sense to be able to keep pace with the other teams that are starting to do it,” Gould told the Waddle and Silvy Show on ESPN 1000.

Regardless of what happens, it looks as if the split between team and stadium won't be smooth sailing.
