Bad news for Cleveland Browns fans: it seems quarterback Deshaun Watson's shoulder injury will keep him out longer than expected.
Deshaun Watson has a rotator cuff injury that typically sidelines baseball pitchers for four to six weeks, per ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Some clarity on Deshaun Watson's injury: doctors told him that he has a strain of the subscapularis within the rotator cuff and he continues to have both pain and weakness with movement. This type of injury in baseball normally causes pitchers to miss 4-6 weeks. Watson continues to work to regain strength and velocity in his shoulder and shorten that window,” Schefter tweeted on Tuesday.
It has been a rough two seasons for Deshaun Watson with the Browns. The NFL suspended Watson for 11 games amid sexual harassment allegations last season. He suited up in just six games and threw for 1,102 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Deshaun Watson passed for 683 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions before missing the Browns' last two games with a shoulder injury. PJ Walker has taken over starting quarterback duties for the Browns in Watson's absence. Cleveland has won two games in a row with Walker under center.
The Browns upset the heavily-favored San Francisco 49ers 19-17 in Week 6. Rookie kicker Jake Moody's 41-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide right in the game's waning moments. The 49ers suffered their first loss of the season.
The Browns beat the Indianapolis Colts 39-38 on a last-second touchdown courtesy of Kareem Hunt. Two late penalties on Colts cornerback Darrell Baker, Jr. turned the tide in Cleveland's favor.
Cleveland is doing well without Deshaun Watson so far. The Browns' No. 1-ranked defense (243 yards allowed per game) has been giving opponents fits. Let's see if they can extend their winning streak against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8.
