Wesley Matthews is well-aware that the Milwaukee Bucks are one of the best teams in the league. Now, as he embarks on his first season wearing the Bucks jersey, his mission is not to mess up what the team has built in recent years.

In the 2018-19 season, the Bucks were the best defensive team with a rating of 104.9. They were also third-best when it comes to shooting the ball from deep, making 41.9 percent of their triples. Matthews is completely aware of these statistics, and he's looking to help them maintain or improve on these aspects in his first year with the squad.

“They already were the No. 1 defensive team last year, so I’ll try not to mess that up. And they already shot the hell out of the 3-ball, so I’ll try not to mess that up,” the 32-year-old said with a laugh, per Mark Feldan of The Journal Times. “Really, just (try to) enhance everything, bring a different perspective, a leadership-type role. You know me, I’m going to be the the first one in the trenches and that’s just the way this team is built.”

Matthews signed with the Bucks this summer for the veteran's minimum. However, the prospect of joining and helping a title contender is certainly alluring for the 32-year-old swingman.

Apart from the team statistics, Matthews knows he's joining a club that was a few wins away from the NBA Finals. Certainly, they won't settle anything less than a championship.
