For Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine to make the All-Star team this season, three things need to happen.

One, LaVine needs to build off his 2018-19 campaign offensively and continue to find ways to become more efficient.

Two, the Bulls' leading scorer has to lead Chicago to more than 22 wins.

But the most important thing for LaVine is to become a more well-rounded defender, and we are seeing signs of that in the preseason.

LaVine, who has the athleticism and physical tools to be a two-way player, says he's “tired of people talking s**t” about his defense:

“I’m just tired of people talking shit about my defense,” LaVine said, via The Athletic. “I’ve always been a good on-ball defender. But there’s no reason I can be this good offensively and not be that good on the defensive end. So I’m taking more pride in it. I’m pretty sure it’ll show. I’ll make sure of that.”

LaVine, who has completely recovered from the ACL tear he suffered during the 2016-17 campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaged 23.7 points per game last season while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Offense has never been an issue for LaVine. It's his effort on defense which has come into question in his first couple of years in the NBA.

If LaVine can be an impact defensive player for the Bulls, Chicago has a chance to be a lower-seed playoff team if it can stay healthy and play smart basketball on both ends of the floor.
