Adrian Peterson’s days in Arizona are apparently numbered, with the Cardinals expected to cut the veteran running back. However, the soon-to-be 33-year-old isn't planning to call time on his career anytime soon. The former league MVP says he still wants to play 4-5 more years, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

“I think I would want to play maybe four more years, four to five more years,” he said. At the end of the day, I know I can play. If you watch football, as far as being an evaluator of talent, if a guy has something left in the tank, I feel like he was able to see that I can still play the game.”

Peterson’s 10-year career with the Minnesota Vikings came to an end last year as he started the season with the New Orleans Saints. However, his stint with the Saints was short-lived as he lasted just four games in New Orleans before getting traded to Arizona.

Peterson played six games for the Cardinals, racking up 448 rushing yards with two touchdowns as he got to play with David Johnson missing the entire season with a wrist injury. He went off for 134 rushing yards with two touchdowns in his Arizona debut against Tampa Bay and had 159 yards a couple weeks later against San Francisco. However, his season was cut short as he missed all of December due to a neck injury.

While Peterson says he still hasn’t heard directly from the Cardinals, there’s a strong possibility that he gets released to make way for Johnson’s return next season. If he does get let go, he may find it tough to get another gig in the league where he can play out those last 4-5 years. There likely won’t be too many teams that will be eager to secure the services of an aging running back who’s a virtual non-factor in the receiving game.
