The Arizona Cardinals may not have wanted to admit there was some drama stirring under their roof, but it looks as if the cat is out of the bag anyway. Quarterback Kyler Murray's recent social media activity sent fans into a frenzy speculating as to whether he was content in Glendale. The Cardinals responded by mimicking Murray by clearing their Instagram page of all but two images, both of Murray.

While the team was hoping that quelled any rumors of unhappiness, a report on Sunday by Chris Mortensen suggested that there was indeed some tension between the two sides, with the ESPN reporter describing Murray as being “frustrated” by the playoff exit and feeling that he was being treated as the scapegoat.

Now, the Cardinals are looking to get ahead of the situation they failed to properly get ahead of in the first place, by releasing an official statement, via ProFootballTalk.

The Cardinals' statement was a direct response to Mortensen's report, and the team shot down any idea that their opinion on Murray had lessened. “Nothing has changed regarding our opinion and high regard for Kyler Murray,” the team said in its statement.

Murray faced (perhaps more than) his fair share of scrutiny after the Cardinals' late-season collapse and early playoff exit. There's no sugar-coating it. Murray was downright abysmal in the Wild Card against the Rams. The QB threw two interceptions and completed just 19-of-34 pass attempts for 137 yards and zero touchdowns. As Mortensen noted in his report, Murray feels he's being treated as the scapegoat for the Cardinals' collapse, though the team is denying any such indication.

With the Super Bowl not even kicked off yet, it looks as if even more NFL offseason drama is emerging, as the Cardinals look to cool the situation with their star QB.
