The Arizona Cardinals have a busy offseason ahead of them as they try to determine who they'll take with the first overall pick. One player who isn't likely to be brought back is edge rusher Markus Golden; a source told Matt Verderame of Fansided.

Verderame writes that Arizona “loves the edge rushers in this draft class,” and notes that they're already paying defensive end Chandler Jones a ton of money. The Cardinals have been heavily linked to pass-rusher Nick Bosa with the first overall pick, which could play into their decision to let Golden walk.

Golden, a second-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2015, got off to a very promising start in the desert. He had 12.5 sacks in 2016 during his sophomore campaign, but injuries have derailed his last couple of seasons. He appeared in just 15 games over the past two seasons and notched just 2.5 sacks.

Still, because of his prior production and the fact that he's still only 27, he should receive plenty of interest on the open market. He won't be landing an especially lucrative deal, but he should have a number of suitors. The Cardinals will almost certainly be drafting a pass-rusher early on in this April's draft, and no longer have any need for him.

Despite the team's 2-14 record overall, the defense remained somewhat solid. New defensive coordinator Vance Joseph loves to send a lot of pressure after quarterbacks, and he clearly isn't too high on Golden. It could turn out to be a win-win for both sides, as the former Missouri Tiger will benefit from a fresh start.
