Going to the Nationals is like being sent to a massive toy store for the first time for any avid card enthusiast. As you enter the convention area, you’ll be treated to a heavenly display of insane cards at every angle. Unfortunately, this amazing gathering for those in the hobby is also being used for unlawful means. This brings us to strange NBA card news.
Case in point, this guy who tried to steal a bag full of cards at the Nationals. In a video posted by Cardporn, the thief is shown emptying his bag of all the cards he swiped from a dealer. The police officer who apprehended him is also shown by his side, monitoring his every move.
As the video goes on, it’s revealed that the contents of the bag were way more than just a couple of cards. The sheer quantity of what was stolen came close to filling a box itself. The thief went on to empty the bag while the dealer was taking account of what was taken.
Unfortunately, the person taking the video mentioned that the total amount of the cards wasn’t enough to indict the NBA card thief for a lengthy stay in prison. All that can be chared is a misdemeanor, which has a lesser punishment than what many at the Nationals were hoping for.
If the thief was successful in walking away with that kind of loot, he could’ve made a lot of money at the expense of his victim. This goes to show that even a huge event like the recent Nationals isn’t safe from these people. It always makes sense to protect your cards at all costs, especially since they’re a hot commodity these days.
