New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has been one of the more vocal athletes addressing serious social issues, after bouts of violence caught national headlines.

He recently encouraged fellow athletes to use their platforms to demand a change, raise awareness, and call for accountability. He also delivered a message along with fellow NBA stars LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade during a segment of the ESPY awards.

Anthony also spoke up and called for peace, during the 2015 riots in Baltimore because of the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray who suffered fatal injuries in police custody. There were fires, arrests, and the Governor called in the National Guard as a result of those impending issues.

After the acquittal of the officer in charge, Anthony admitted disappointment, and told ESPN's The Undefeated that he's not sure what the answer is, but recognizes that the system is broken.

Anthony is peacefully doing his part in speaking up on social issues, and calling for change, and it won't be long before his influence extends to have others doing the same.
