It's been nearly a decade since the Boston Celtics went on that historic championship run in 2008. That particular team was built around an extremely formidable core of players, that apparently, still remain closely connected to this very day.

As it turns out, some members of that Celtics team created a group-text that remains active up to today. The chat reportedly includes Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Tony Allen, Doc Rivers, and Kendrick Perkins.

Perkins recently spoke with Jackie MacMullan of ESPN and shared how the group-text came to life. According to the retired big man, it all began when Rivers sent a simple Christmas greeting a couple of years after the Celtics had won the title. At that time, Perkins was already with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It was nice to hear from Doc,” Perkins said. “And by reaching out like that, it just got everybody talking all sorts of noise. As usual, KG was the loudest. He said to me on that first text chain, ‘Don't you start getting too comfortable in Oklahoma, Perk. You know where your real family is.'”

Perkins went on to share that they all still currently communicate through the group-text, as they discuss all sorts of things — from the most significant events in the NBA to the mundane occurrences of their everyday lives.

“That's how we've stayed connected,” the former Celtics talent said, “to the best part of our brotherhood that never died.”

This is a great example of how technology has kept the bond strong between friends, despite the physical distance between them.
