The Boston Celtics received an unfortunate injury update on Friday. Jaylen Brown's right hamstring tightness will cause him to miss Boston's next game against the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced.

Brown left the Celtics' prior game, a victory over the Miami Heat, due to his hamstring issue after the third quarter ended. Head coach Ime Udoka told reporters after the game that the team is being cautious with Brown's hamstring, and their decision to sit him out against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks follows that logic.

In what has been a very bumpy start to the season for the Celtics, Brown hasn't been shaken. Through eight games, he is averaging a team-high 25.6 points per game while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. The 2021 All-Star is also averaging 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He scored a career-high 46 points in Boston's season opener.

Jayston Tatum, who is averaging 22.7 points on a paltry field-goal percentage of 37.3 percent, will have to carry more of the offense with his co-star sidelined. Dennis Schröder, who is averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 assists per game this season, will likely see an increase in his role on offense, too. The Celtics are coming off of two consecutive wins after a 2-5 start to the season.
