On Saturday during a conference call with members of the media, it was announced by Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens that Marcus Smart will be re-evaluated next week and that his surgically-repaired right thumb will not be at risk of re-injury once he returns.

“He's doing everything but live,” coach Stevens said, per Tom Westerholm of MassLive.com. “So he hasn't played any like 2-on-2, 3-on-3, 4-on-4, 5-on-5. I think it's just a matter of you have to have that post-surgery healed to be able to take a hit even with the brace on it. That's the hold-up. Other than that, I think he feels pretty good. He's shooting the ball, he's doing everything in a workout that you can do. It's just a matter of being cleared for live play.”

Smart, who has been out of the Celtics' lineup since March 12 after he underwent successful right thumb surgery, only needs to be cleared by the training staff in order to resume live action.

Boston really could have used Smart's services last night against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 3 of their first-round series, as the Celtics were routed 116-92 on Friday night at BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Sunday afternoon's Game 4 contest is absolutely pivotal for the Celtics to win, as they could potentially head back to Boston with a 3-1 series lead and shift all of the pressure back on the Bucks.
