Boston Celtics legend Red Auerbach is considered one of the greatest coaches not just in the history of basketball, but in the history of sports, period.

During his tenure as Celtics head coach back in the 1950s and '60s, Auerbach led Boston to nine championships. He then won seven more as a Celtics executive.

Current Boston president Danny Ainge, who played for the C's when Auerbach was an executive in the 1980s, took to Twitter on Saturday night to proclaim how much the late Auerbach would have loved this current Celtics group:

Whether it has been injuries, inconsistency or trade rumors, the Celtics have absolutely played through adversity this season.

Since their 10-10 start, Boston has gone 23-9, good for the most wins in the NBA over that span. The squad also owns the league's best net rating since that point and has climbed up to a tie in the loss column for third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The C's have won eight of their last nine games and will play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday afternoon, shortly before the hometown New England Patriots aim to win their sixth Super Bowl since February 2002 against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday evening.

Expected by many to come out of the East this year, injuries and inconsistent performance resulted in the Celtics getting off to a very slow start, but they have since rebounded and seem primed to make another run at the Finals this spring.

Boston is also considered one of the possible landing spots for New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis this summer.
