While preparing for a post-Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Boston Celtics this Friday, Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel had some good things to say about Celtics big man Al Horford. Via Jay King of MassLive.com.

It’s not exactly a new notion that Horford is underrated. While the 31-year-old power forward has been one of the most effective and efficient bigs in the NBA, he doesn’t have the colorful character nor the explosive athleticism that casual fans look for in a superstar.

Still, Horford's elite basketball skills are undeniable. He won’t punish defenders with speed and verticals but he’ll break them down with sound footwork, polished post maneuvers, and decent touch from the perimeter. It’s mostly for these qualities why Horford has been named to four All-Star teams.

Moreover, Horford doesn’t command the spotlight. The Celtics are the No. 1 team right now in the Eastern Conference despite missing Gordon Hayward for the remainder of the season, but Kyrie Irving aside, most people forget that Horford is a key factor to the surprising success the team is still having minus Hayward.

On the season, Horford is averaging 13.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

Vogel surely has his eye trained on limiting Horford when the Magic takes the floor of TD Garden Friday.
