On the same court where he suffered a gruesome ankle injury in 2017-18, Boston Celtics small forward Gordon Hayward scored 39 points, his career-high as a member of the team.

On Tuesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hayward's 39 points helped the Celtics defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers by a final score of 119-113:

Last season for the Celtics, Hayward averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 83.4 percent from the free-throw line. He didn’t have the year he thought he was going to have.

It's a new year, though, and Hayward is starting to look like himself again. The Celtics, after losing to the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night, have won five games in a row and are now 5-1 on the season.

Hayward is trying to regain his All-Star form after having a disappointing 2018-19 campaign. For that to happen, the Celtics forward knew he had to stay in Boston this offseason. He trained with the Celtics' coaching staff and trainers instead of heading to his usual training spot of San Diego.

Boston will look to win its sixth game in a row on Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets. We'll see if Hayward can continue his strong play.
