Kevin Garnett has weighed in on the much-awaited Game 7 matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors.
Naturally, the former Celtic made the obvious pick:
Garnett didn't provide any explanation for his prediction, but he didn't need any. He's forever bonded to the city he gave a championship to in 2008, much like Paul Pierce, who also picked the Celtics on Thursday's edition of ESPN's “The Jump.”
Loyalty lies deep with former Celtics, and The Big Ticket is no different here.
The Celtics came up short in a double-overtime Game 6 that might just have been the game of the season. Boston traded buckets with Toronto, shot after shot from the fourth quarter on, which made for spectacular drama.
Yet the majority of Celtics and Raptors starters played over 50 minutes in this barn burner of a game, and they will likely be suffering from tired legs with only the one day of rest between games.
If the Celtics are to make Garnett's prediction come true, they will have to get their bench involved, as the starters are likely to be on weak legs from Wednesday's outing. The Raptors' bench could prove tough to match, considering Boston doesn't have weapons like Serge Ibaka and Norman Powell.
The latter proved a catalyst late, scoring 15 points in the overtime periods, including a final barreling bucket that put the game out of reach.
Boston will also have to prepare to face the feared box-and-one strategy that has proven to be Nick Nurse's ace in the hole for two consecutive postseasons. Kemba Walker saw it a lot in Game 6, but the defensive strategy could be deployed on any Celtic with the hot hand.
