Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving has toned down his use of social media in efforts to avoid the constant criticism and the hoopla surrounding his team. This chatter has gone hand-in-hand with his upcoming free agency, the relationship with his teammates, and other negatives that could frustrate his approach to this last stretch of the regular season:

“I don’t try to read any more of that. I’m disconnected completely from that social media hub, which has helped me,” Irving said, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. “But at the same time, it’s what makes me great as well is really just coming to work every single day and doing my job at a very high level and putting on a show.”

Irving made it clear that while he's there to provide a show for the fans, his first priority to win basketball games lies with the franchise and with himself:

“I’m an entertainer out there, but I’m a winner first and foremost,” said Irving. “When I used to be in my backyard playing one on one with my dad, that what was instilled in me was that winning mentality. When he taught me how to be on a team, it was the same thing. It’s just part of growing in this business and understanding how to find a balance between a work environment and your personal life.”

The Celtics snapped a four-game skid at the end of last month to win four of their last five games, including three in a row on their current four-game West Coast road trip that ends on Monday against the LA Clippers.
