Often criticized for not being a good defender during his days with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving has so far proven this season that he has a more well-rounded game. Now having an even bigger role with the Boston Celtics, the four-time All-Star point guard has been showing off his improved defense by completing 17 steals through seven games.

Kyrie Irving is so far leading the league in that category, and his current average of 2.4 steals per game is a career high for him.

The Celtics suffered an early blow to their campaign when one of their prized additions in the offseason, Gordon Hayward, suffered a gruesome ankle and tibia injury that will highly likely cost him the entire season. However, Kyrie Irving has upped his game since and has made it possible for the team to string a few wins together, and are currently leading the Eastern Conference with a 5-2 record.

It remains to be seen if Uncle Drew can continue his new-found ball-hawking ways, but with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, it will be hard not to imagine him playing at this level throughout the year. His improved defense will only benefit the Celtics, and could give him renewed confidence as well in how he defends his opponents.
