Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart was ejected in the team's game against the Philadelphia 76ers last Wednesday after shoving Sixers big man Joel Embiid. In an interview with John Karalis of Masslive.com, Smart believes that the league is playing favorites when it comes to who gets ejected and who doesn't, although he said he understands the league's reasoning for it.

“You know I’m probably held on a different scale than anybody else,” Smart said.

“I seen a couple nights before Russell Westbrook do the exact same thing and he got hit with a flagrant one. I got ejected, so it’s definitely, just, different type of people, individuals, held to different type of platforms, and higher pedestals than others, which is understandable. And unfortunately I’m on that lower totem pole.”

The incident began when Joel Embiid elbowed Marcus Smart in the face during a pick and roll play early in the third quarter, which the latter retaliated by pushing the former, who went down on the floor. When Embiid got up, he went right after Smart. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and both were separated before things could escalate.

Smart was then tossed out of the game.

It's hard to argue with Smart's point, as there has been some incidents when players did worse, but only received a technical. However, it is what it is. He's living with what he believes is a norm in the league, and he doesn't want to dwell much about it.
