Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving is reportedly upset at how his name has been constantly linked to rumors surrounding New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

The latest reports signaled that while Irving has somewhat gone back on his word of coming back to Boston in the offseason, a Davis trade could lock up his decision to remain with the franchise.

“The root of his frustration, a former teammate of Irving’s told SI.com, could have little to do with Boston at all,” wrote Mannix. “Irving hates the narrative that other players (Kevin Durant in New York; Davis in Boston) can influence his decision, the ex-teammate said.

“He gets frustrated when he feels people are trying to manipulate him. In his mind, it doesn’t matter if it’s Davis or James — he’s going to do whatever he wants to do, and to assume otherwise is disrespectful.”

Irving recently exploded onto reporters after they asked him of his potential free agency this summer, responding with a dry “Ask me July 1st.”

The narrative has now gone from Irving seeking his own franchise to run to soon finding out he'll need a partner to take his championship hopes to the next level, whether it's Davis in Boston or Kevin Durant in New York.

It's a complete full-circle from leaving a championship-caliber situation with LeBron James, only to find out he needs help from a proven star veteran — and it stands to reason why he's frustrated with that.
