Paul Pierce was the man of the night at the TD Garden as the Boston Celtics hosted the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers during his jersey retirement. Number 34 owned the Celtics’ heart and highlights during much of his storied career and this was what Boston was celebrating Sunday night.

But his son Prince didn’t seem to care.

During an interview with ESPN’s Doris Burke, Prince stole the show with a number of funny faces while his father was ironically talking about missing time with his son. Paul Pierce talked about not seeing his son walk for the first time, a sacrifice he made, he says, to give it his all to Celtics fans.

Prince would have none of that as he seemed to be mocking his dad for making those sacrifices to play ball with the Celtics when he could have shot some hoops with him instead.

“It’s all worth it in the end,” Pierce said. “because I can spend time with my family. I gave it my all when I was here and that’s all you can ask for. That’s all Boston fans can ask for—I left it on the court every night.”

Someday Pierce’s son is going to watch that video and know that he trolled his dad at a time when his father was being honored. He was the only one to make fun of him on his special night when the Celtics were honoring his dad’s legendary career with the franchise.

The spotlight may have been on the father on this night, but the son found a way to shine a little bit, too.
