The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bolster their defensive line as they are set to host veteran pass-rusher, Melvin Ingram, this coming week. The three-time Pro Bowler's previous contract with the Los Angeles Chargers has already expired which led him to enter unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career, per NFL‘s Ian Rapoport.
Ingram has been a mainstay on the Chargers squad through nine seasons from 2012 to 2020. He has emerged as a key piece in their defensive rotation although his production was lessened due to the injuries that he encountered last season.
The South Carolina product only appeared in seven games and was limited to register 10 total tackles, two passes defended along with a lone interception. His 2020 campaign was eventually cut short due to a season-ending knee injury that he sustained back in late November.
Despite playing at 31 years old, Ingram can still serve as a serviceable asset if he manages to stay away from injuries. On the other hand, the Chiefs are also looking to fill their defensive line with better pieces after getting exposed in Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ingram will potentially ink a minimum contract if he successfully lands an agreement with the Chiefs in the coming days, considering the team's stacked roster along with his meager production last season. More than anything, Melvin Ingram only needs an opportunity in order to prove that he still has a lot left in the tank even at this stage in his career.
